If post doesn’t have a set featured image,
WP Autoset Featured Image Plus check if text contains an image. If yes, set this as featured image,
if not, you can set any external url image. Otherwise, leave field empty.

To install the plugin manually:
- Extract the contents of the archive (zip file)
- Upload the wpautosetfeaturedimageplus folder to your ‘/wp-content/plugins’ folder
- Activate the plugin through the Plugins section in your WordPress admin panel.
Upload via the WordPress administration panel:
- Click on “Plugins” in the left panel, then click on “Add new”.
- You should now see the Install Plugins page. Click on “Upload”.
- Click on Browse and select your “wpautosetfeaturedimageplus.zip” file.
- Click on “Install now”, activate it and you’re done!

Very nice! Does what it’s supposed to, and does it WELL!
It will modify the 1st image’s CODE and set it as the featured image, but most importantly WITHOUT RESIZING it in any way!
Unlike the WordPress built-in featured image mechanism, when using it, it will add a RESIZED version of the image you’re trying to set, making it all ugly and deformed.
This plugin leaves the image as it is, and simply marks it as featured on the CODE LEVEL. This is the way it should be!
Very well executed! Bravo to the developer!
Honestly Wordpress should incorporate this plugin in their next release. This plugin is everything the built in “featured image” feature in Wordpress ISN’T but SHOULD BE!
